Most people know the New Zealand-based company Fisher & Paykel as makers of fine home appliances. They were first famous for bringing in imported refrigerators but are now known for their quality dish washing machines, refrigerators, and other home utilities. Recently, though, they have started to branch out and make machines that are very helpful to people with sleep apnea. One of their pioneer products is the icon CPAP machine. Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that causes abnormal pauses in a persons breathing pattern. Although it is not the primary cause, a person who has sleep apnea usually snores at night. CPAP or continuous positive airway pressure machines help maintain the pressure in the persons airway to stop him from having abnormal pauses and eventually treat sleep apnea. Unlike other breathing machines, the patients who prefer CPAP initiates their breathing. The machine will not be able to help the patients breathe but instead will give them enough pressure to sustain their breathing pattern.
